Setting the Stage: The Prompt and Experiment
We know the importance of prompts and we already know that GPT-3 is very effective when queried with detailed prompts, especially prompts that contain suggestions about the content structure (subtopics to be covered).
The same prompt was used for both models of course.
For the first round of our GPT models battle we provided the models with a very detailed prompt, containing the topics to be covered in the article.
This is an important detail, a further test will consist in providing the engines really basic prompt to compare their output in a such situation. I have done that test too, but i have not commented the results yet.

To better understand the differences, I attempted a side-by-side comparison.
As part of a comparative analysis between GPT-3 and GPT-4, I thoroughly analyzed both generated texts and extracted all relevant information.
I’ve tried to evaluate which from GPT-3 or GPT-4 produced the best output for each individual topic (or piece of information) within the text, and rated each model on a scale from 0 to 5.

Based on the table, Model 2 (M2) performs better in 12 out of the 22 subtopics, while Model 1 (M1) performs better in the remaining 10 subtopics. Overall, Model 2 appears to perform slightly better, particularly in providing concise and clear explanations, making it more beginner-friendly. |
Here it looks like we have a winner, even without asking it to GPT-4, GPT-4 outpout really looks like better in general, but the difference is not so big and sometimes I feel that GPT-3 were even more convincing.
GPT 4 responds in a much more direct way, without frills and is much more focused, which from my point of view produces outputs that are much more pleasant to read.
At this point we don’t have much to say about the quality of the information, because on this point the very detailed prompt may have biased the result.
The next step is to compare the performance of GPT-3 and GPT-4 with a much less detailed prompt in order to evaluate their ability to produce relevant information on their own.
